This provides an introduction to the basic concepts of socket communications and also a tutorial on how to build simple programs that communicate via TCP/IP sockets. The tutorial is based on two example programs that exchange information each by writing to and reading from the socket it has created. Sockets allow programs to communicate either on the same machine or across a network.
